We the 21st century folks really have it good. We all can point to our parents and what education and learning was during their time before the advent of the Internet. All the education me from those voluminous text books that heaven helps you if you can't read them. It was a always a battle as they hardly had all the materials they needed to excel, as only a few students had access to all these expensive learning aids. The exercises in the Larcombes Class 4 edition my dad owned back in the day is enough to make an undergraduate shake with fear owing to the very tough questions in it. But, thank God for technology, we don't have to go through all these harrowing ordeals in order to be better students today. The internet is awash with millions of resources to help us. It is unfortunate that especially in this part of the world, almost 80% of our Internet usage is dedicated to mundane things like posting pictures on facebook, tweeting, Instagram, Snapchatting and the likes....

I question the logic behind why people say "Don't be in haste when you see your mates making it, everyone has their own time, " blah blah blah. This to me is a defeatist attitude because it breeds complacency. If after 6 years of leaving secondary school you see your old mates doing OK and the reverse is the case for you, this doesn't mean you are lazy, it just implies you are not doing it right. Nobody is born with 2 heads. But if we cannot be sufficiently self-motivated to reach our goals, then by all means we must look around at how far our mates have gone and try to get ahead of them. Competition breeds Perfection

As soon as I got my bed I headed for the hostel. I chose a bed space, dropped my bags and made to registration. No time to waste. On getting there the crowd was much I nearly suffocated. I sha made it and got a Platoon and my kit. As anybody who had served before knows, the camp kits are nothing of your size and everything only an overweight person can be happy with. Wonder why they told us to take down our measurements on the portal sef. Mtssw. Typical Nigerian problem, I shrugged. The registration went on for two days. Thankfully I was through on the first day so rested the second day. By 4am the third day, a shrill sound from the trumpet rudely awoke me, summoning all corpers for devotion. This is the first welcome I got to the camp, I was so annoyed . wetin dem wan dey follow us talk by 4 sef? I grumbled then got to the parade ground. This was me on my first parade appearance in camp. Registration for mobilization began early February, and I registered early, but not early enough to make Stream 1 of the 2016 Batch A(an oversight that would later cause me anxiety). Well,I went to this cafe and chose KADUNA, AKWA IBOM, ENUGU AND NASSARAWA in that order. I was fixated on getting posted far away from home, so I ignored my mum who pleaded for me to stay close.3 months later however, with the stream 1 people already through with camping, we were yet to hear anything from NYSC as per our camping.This put a lot of strain on me as I couldn't even walk about in the area because I already said my goodbyes a month ago, when NYSC said we would resume, only for them to postpone it.A series of postponements led PCMS to start calling the people in the know for information on resumption. Even the DG was not left out. There was even a nationwide protest in which grievances were made known. Eventually, light came at the end of the tunnel and camping was fixed for 13th June, 2...

The National Youth service Corps which was inaugurated in the wake of the Civil War of the '70s,affords graduates the opportunity to experience foreign cultures in Nigeria and thereby appreciate the country's oness. After ( barely ) making my papers and graduating from the Federal University of agriculture Abeokuta in October 2015, I was waiting for the day I will don the green khaki and the orange boots. I also harboured the fantasy of serving in the North and see for myself if the many stereotypes we have about the Hausas are indeed true. You can't blame me though, what with the Boko Haram menace and the prevalent Sharia law makes we southerners a bit apprehensive of them. My mobilization for the NYSC won't begin until January 2016 however, during which I did all my necesary clearances and paid my last dues to FUNAAB. by February I was able to register for mobilization and thus began the NYSC journey...
